Default Hi-beam relay part #???

Hey guys,

You helped me out considerably with my last stupid question, so let me dive in again.

I've got a Shell Valley which, I assume, has all the stock electrical components. The headlights will not always switch from high to low beam, but the relay clicks when powered. Well, let me clarify; The relay will switch the headlamp beams, but it does not hold. It's like there's supposed to be a latching mechanism in the relay that isn't catching.

I pulled the relay out and ran it by a couple of local parts stores. No-one seemed to know how to use a manual, so I did it myself.

The relay I pulled out is marked, "SIEMENS PR07P00700" It's got terminals marked, S, 30, 56, 56a, & 56b. I "think" I matched it up to a Borg Warner #R3119. That relay, however, is a special order unit and costs $52.99. (!) I'm thinking that's about six times what it should cost, but who knows.

So the question is, does anyone know where I can get this replacement realy? Is that the correct Borg Warner part? And, gulp, am I really going to be paying over $55.00 for it otd???

Thanks for any help, Tom.

It's probably a VW Bug headlight relay.
111-941-583.

It is expensive.

Thanks for the reply. A bit ago I started thinking the same thing. I got online and found the identical relay for an early V.W. After searching a bit, I ordered it from an Audi parts site, www.audparts.com, for $15.99 + $6.00 to ship. MUCH better that O'Reilly's $52.99 + tax!

Yeah, I actually popped the cover off mine yesterday to see how it worked. I ended up bending the little "finger-thingy" a little to get it to engage a bit better & thought I had it working perfectly. I put it back in the car and tried it without the engine running. No luck. I thought about it a moment & started the car. Worked fine. With the headlights on and the car off, there wasn't enough juice in the battery to fully drop the solenoid.

So now my original is working "okay" so long as it's got good juce to it. I think I'll go ahead & put the new one in anyway when it comes and keep this one around in case it's ever needed.
