Finishing a project - which grease?
I have always worked around Fords and used a multiple purpose moly-EP black grease (valvoline #632) for ball joints, u-joints and tapered bearings. Upon receiving my rebuilt Jag hub carriers I noted that a thicker red grease was used. After a visit to the local parts store I found black grease for Fords and a red multiple purpose high temp / pressure grease (Valvoline #614) intended for GM, Chrysler, European and Japanese cars.
Which grease is better? Can these greases be combined? I coated the lower jag hub carrier pivot shaft with the black type and installed it before noticing that the red grease was used in the tapered bearings the pivot shaft slides thru. I do not want to disassemble and clean to remove one type of grease!
