Default Backup lights

I have decided to install some backup lighting but would really like to find a novel way to approach this rather than using old Mustang stuff. I know this topic has been visited a few times but I could not find anything in the archives that really set me off. I was thinking of some type of L.E.D. setup but I just can't find a suitable fixture. My bodywork and paint are done so I don't want to use anything where I have to do serious surgery. Any ideas? -Bob

Bob:

I had a question about this as well, and found that someone here, or on the ffrog used the back-up light off of a BMW Mini. They have a centrally located backup light that aparently fits quite nicely below the trunk opening of a Cobra. The parts can be had for relatively little money as I understand. This might provide you with the solution you are looking for.

Best regards,

I thought about it when I was building. I decided not to put one in. 4 years later, 20k miles, and I don't miss it.

Al,
Thanks, for the suggestion. I will certainly look into this option. Would this be available at a BMW dealership or somewhere else. Thanks, again.
Roscoe,
Part of me is with you but I am registering here in Ca. under the SB100 rule that requires a light check that, depending on who's checking, may require working B/U lights. Rather than having to jury rig something later I have decided to get some on. Maybe a little safety feature as well. -Bob

Bob:

Yes, you would probably have no trouble finding one at a Mini Dealership parts counter, but if you happen to know of anyone in the bodyshop business, they might be of help too. You could also do an internet search. There are loads of people making things for the new mini, so you may have some luck there.

Here is a picture of my FFR with a Mini Cooper back up light. Cost was under $10.00 through a Mini dealer

Hey, you're the guy!! Thanks for chiming in. I hope you didn't mind I mentioned your ingenious idea.

That's quite a "mini" photo you got there..
