Default HELP with MSD Distributor

I need some debugging advise. I pulled my MSD distributor out when I installed oil restrictors to my rocker assembly. When I put everything back together, I put the crank on TDC, pointed the rotor at the #1 cylinder and pushed the distributor on. Next I put the cap on lining up #1 on the cap to the rotor. I wired up according to firing order and the car does not start.

To debug I hooked up my timing light to the #1 wire to see if I was getting spark while turning the motor over. No spark indicated by the light. Next I hooked up the light to the coil wire to the distributor. Turned the engine over and I see spark indicated by the timing light flashing.

So seems like the coil is firing into the distributor but no spark makes it out of the distributor.

What did I do wrong?

Did you time the distributor after you pointed the rotor at #1 and pushed it in. You don't mention aligning the distributor with any marks by turning the distributor body.

Well I have a mark across the distributor base and manifold. I lined those up before pushing the distributor fully in. The cap and housing also have marks across them. Lined up correctly. I did not note the rotor position when I removed the distributor, however since I had to turn th crank anyway for installling the rocker assembly, I just started over from TDC. I determined this by watching the intake pushrod while turning the engine over. When it came down from lift the next time the timing marks lined up was TDC. I think I am going to pull the distributor and try from scratch...I just re-read the install process in the Steve Christ book and I did not align the rotor with #1 on the cap then back it off 45 degrees before seating the distributor.
