Fuel Pressure Isolator
I need some advice on purchasing and installing a fuel pressure gauge isolator. I don't like the idea of having raw fuel on my side of the firewall.
I'm using an original-type fuel log and a Smiths mechanical fuel pressure gauge.
Where can I purchase an isolator that will work?
Where and how should I mount the isolator?
Anyone with any words of wisdom on this?

Doug,
You should never mount a mechanical fuel gauge inside the car as it will vent gas fumes into the car,also it won't pass tech at NHRA or may void your car insurance. That said, an isolator can be mounted on the firewall or inner fender,then connects to an electrical fuel gauge inside the car.
I run a mechanical fuel gauge on the cowl infront of the windshied,most race cars put them there.
Summit racing has isolators in stock.

I am using a Mallory unit that mounts between my fuel log and the gauge. Very happy with it. It is made of billet aluminum, beautifully crafted, and nicely anodized. You can find them at Jegs, and as I recall, they run about $70.00. Auto meter makes one also, but I appreciated the look and workmanship of the Mallory unit.
On my Kirkham, I mounted the line from the gauge thru the firewall, to the isolator, and then a short piece of line from the other end of the isolator going to a 90 degree elbow which screws into the log. The isolator itself lives under and to the center of the puke tank.

Are you using mechanical gauges? If so, then what liquid do you use to fill the line from the isolator to the gauge? I'd like to stick with the Smiths mech gauge if possible.
Roscoe,
Is that an AN line from the isolator to the fuel line? What size?
Would it be feasible to mount the isolator directly to the end of the fuel log?

The Autometer isolator comes with a -3 or -4 an fitting and a line to run to the gauge. (I think it's -4) You will have to get or make a line from the fuel log (or wherever) to the isolator.
The line that comes with the isolator is filled with propolene glycol. You will not have to fill the line unless you screw up the install. Electronic fuel pressure gauges do not need an isolator.

YEAH - - WHAT ROSCOE SAID - -
I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND MOUNTING THE ISOLATOR ON THE FUEL LOG. YOU "MIGHT" NOT HAVE ENOUGH HOSE AND I THINK IT WOULD LOOK RATHER UNGAINLY.
MINE IS MOUNTED THE SAME AS ROSCOES AND IN THE EXACT SAME PLACE. IT CAN ALSO BE MOUNTED HORIZONTALLY.
