Default let there be light

Ok, I'm getting older and maybe my night vision is so-so. I want to replace my head lamps with something truly effective. Not necessarily a HID type or a "pencil type" retina burner.,but something that truly lights the road. Rally type maybe with the "european" pattern. I have the "tripods" now and want something that will go in the standard housing with a hi & low. Legal is not necessary either!
Suggestions?

Have you tried installing a relay? With a relay you'll get a full 12v to the lights.

Here's a link I found that has a good diagram. There are three links for brighter lights.

Rick,
Tony is right on. Take out one of your headlights and use a good digital volt meter and check what voltage is getting to your headlight bulb. Mine was reading 10.97-11.05 volts because my wiring was not adequate. I bought a headlight relay kit from Painless. It really brightened up my headlights. Got it from Jegs I think.
