Default an6 = 3/8in tubing???

Is an6 braided stainless tubing roughly the equivalent of 3/8 solid tubing?

I don’t understand the whole an thing. Inches work much better for me.

Thanks

AN (Air Force/ Navy) spec hose and fittings refer to dash sizes. This is caculated by multiplying the nominal bore size by 16.

example : You want a AN fitting for 1/2" hose, Take 16 x .50 (1/2") = 8 So you would need a -8 AN

example: You want a AN fitting for 3/8" hose, Take 16 x .375 (3/8") = 6 So you would need a -6 AN

example : You want a AN fitting for 1/4" hose, Take 16 x .25 (1/4") = 4 So you would need -4 AN

Hope this helps you with AN sizing.
