Raced a New Z06
I never initiate anything, honestly! He pulled up on me and was reving, so I said what the heck. We were on a long desolate stretch of road. We were doing about 45 I honked the horn 3 times, on the third honk, we were off. I let up at about 130 and had him by about 2 car lengths. We slowed down and he wanted to go from a dead start, so we turned them around. He honked three times, and jumped right on the honk(cheating??? pretty close) but I still got him on the start and had him by about 3 car lengths to about 135. He followed me to a gas station and asked me what I had. His jaw almost hit the ground when I ssaid it is just a 5.0 bored to a 306. Then he asked what the car weighed, he kind of smiled when I told him 2100 pounds. He was a pretty cool guy, probably mid 40's. Really nice car(I like the new Vettes) but not 2100 pounds hehe. Anyways, just thought I would share my first challenge in my new baby. To all the safety contious out there, 4 lanes, no traffic....straight!!!!!

I had an experience with a Z06 a while back. I didn't instigate it either. Anyway, went from a 40 mph start. I had downshifted to 3rd but should have gone to 2nd considering my cam doesn't make much power below 3500 rpm. He was pulling slowly ahead till I got into the power band. After that I walked away from. We stopped at a stop sign about 1/2 a mile down the road and he gave me the thumbs up and yelled that I was the first to beat him! Even though I have had very few races (most people who know anything wont mess with us), that Z06 gave me more of a run than anyone.

I am looking forward to the new Shelby GT350 coming out. Supercharged 5.4, I am hearing 450-485 hp out of the box! Looks nice too!

Amazing how you raced a NEW ZO6 with 500hp....they aren't out yet.
Did you race a new C6, possibly a Z51, or an older C5 ZO6...both of which have about 400hp?

He did say 400 hp, it was a 2005. I am a Ford guy. I thought it was a Z06. He had exhaust done, that was it.

That would be a stock C6, not a C6, Z06. The new Z06's are sure to run in the mid to low 11's box standard. Count on it. We make'em right here in BG, KY. I love my Cobra, and just sold my C4, but these new Z06's are a h... of a car.

That's fast for a production car!!!! My car ran a 12.23 here in Tucson (4000+feet). My next major investment will be a Kenne Bell twin screw. Probably buy with tax return next year, I want to break the 10's eventually!

That would be about right. I have a new Z51 (slightly lower trans gears than stock C6s) that is supposed to do high 12s...haven't tried it yet.

I have always liked Vettes a lot! I didn't think I would like the non flip lights, but that was my first close up view of one. They are sleeeeeeeeeek! One of the nicest looking cars I have seen in a while! I didn't mind the fact that he was in my mirror for the 1st part of our meeting though....hehe

HeeHeeHee...........a "NEW Z06. "
I'd love to get my hands on one of those, next year ,when they come out, in the driver's seat, especially on those curvy roads. No amount of Cobra HP and ancient technology will allow you to compete with that package........a Ford GT would do it though.

OK, I am busted...It was a Chevette and an old lady driving it, but it was tubbed man, it was tubbed! Hehe, please forgive a Ford guy (see my garage pick) for this slight (ok 100 HP) mistake. I have some Bow tie homework to catch up on now I guess!

That's ok...Foosh and I drive damn near identical black Z51s as grocery getters.
The BB FE's we have in our Cobras do the dirty work.

Man did I pick the wrong group to throw out inaccurate info hehe. I hear a lot of people talk about how these cobra kits don't take curves too well, or corner. Mine corners and goes around curves nicely. I guess I am use to mustangs, even my Mach corners kind of sloppy. The only vette I have driven was one of my friend's dad's 81/82 with the old cross fire in it. So, I guess I don't have really anything to compare it to that can really corner.

phatry
The Z51 includes some goodies from the previous ZO6 scheme (bigger bars, tighter springs, cross drilled brakes, extra cooling, gear ratio differences, etc.) so it's a bit of a handling tuner...and it still gives a comfortable ride.
Your FFR is a great basis for developing an extreme handling Cobra...some of the top autocrossed Cobras are FFRs. Lots of development at the factory level, not to mention all the stuff avaiable for the Mustang-based suspension.
You can make it be whatever you want it to be with relatively more ease than any of the other makes.
Welcome to dis place, and drive the heck out that car!

Nah, you seem OK. Picking is one of the preferred sports here. But.........
Kit? What kit? I don't have a kit? But if I did, my C6 kit was built in Kentucky. My F-350 kit was built in Michigan. My Cobra kit was built in Alabama. Jamo's kit was built in Poland (or was it Utah)?
My Cobra "kit" goes around curves nicely/OK too, fortunately. It's just not modern technology...........it is a 40+ year old design with a very short wheel-base, and doesn't allow .98G's on the skidpad.
Anything handles well on the drag strip .

If your blowing away new Zo6s with a 302 FFR there is only one reason. He is a worse driver than you are.

Any 600+ horsepower big block Cobra is still gonna kick the _hit out of the new Z06 Vette from a 35 mph "punch" on the hiway. Next time I race a New Z06 Vette (and he loses by 3 car lengths), I will try to make him feel better by saying that the old Z06 Vette lost by 5 car lengths.
