OEM Ford Distributor conversion
I was out in the garage tonight tinkering and happened across a fix that some of you may be interested in. Something I had not ever thought of but may be useful. Take your standard OEM Ford distributor Point type or electronic (without the large cap or adapter) and add the cap that was originally used on the MSD small diameter Billet distributors (not the current Red one that is being supplied) but the previous black one that was sourced from a V8 International and it will fit right on. You may need to change the clips that hold the cap on and you might find it necessary to use a file to make a notch for the cap register, but that only took a minute. The OEM Ford rotor will work and you will have a small diameter cap with the later style connectors (like current MSD). NAPA has a good quality cap with brass contacts #AL162. This conversion may prove useful to some of you. It will allow you to use the better grades of spark plug wires if you are using a OEM Ford Distributor without having to utilize the large diameter cap, and the reduction in diameter may help clearance issues in some cases. BTW this is the original OEM MSD cap with aluminum terminals.
