Default -10AN fittings for oil system?

I have an oil cooler and Mocal Thermostat all -10AN fittings which works out a bit under 1/2" ID actually 12.19mm ID.

I am wondering for racing SBF etc is this big enough or should I go bigger, I would think that -10AN is bigger than most oil galleries?

I have been using 10an fittings on my motor (484in fe) for the last eleven years with no problem.

We use all AN12 in any competition cars. Less restriction means less HP loss via the oil pump and there is less wear on the cam / dist gears.

Ant,

-10 is too small for your engine, da*&%#mn it. Don't even think about it. You can get the Mocal with -12 male fittings. The Mocal is also a very free flowing design. Along with Big Foot's comment, also remember that you don't want to create more pressure as much as you want to allow for volume. That is the name of the game. Big volume. I know about your motor, you've told me and it's a killer combination. Don't scrimp on the plumbing! That thing is going to really spin and want to breathe and flow big time.

Good stuff, John

Default -10AN

Thanks guys for the advice, I have been in touch with my Mocal agent and he will exchange my existing -10AN T-stat for a -12, the only thing left is some adapters for the 16 row -10 oil cooler to bring it up to -12 and I will be cooking!
