Spal fan best place to buy?
Well, the thread title says it mostly. I am looking for the highest cfm 16" Spal fan for a friend's car. I didn't see it listed in Jeggs or summit. Any suggestions?
Steve

I researched the size and CFM of the Spal fan I wanted using the charts on the retail websites. Then I did a search on eBay for the fan I wanted and got a fantastic price there. I am using a Spal #2036, 16" puller 2360 cfm mounted directly on the back of the radiator along with the two small original fans in front for appearance. No overheating issues here. The Sidewinder will pull small critters through the radiator with the same mounting depth.
I wonder if anyone actually knows how fast the car would need to be travelling in order to flow 3000 CFM through the radiator normally. That's a lot of air.

Steve, do a search on the Unique site (type in SPAL Fan), which is where I found it....don't have the link right now. It's pretty cheap $69, from the site I found there. I installed one along with the pushers, and it makes a big difference.

It's not good at all for certain applications. A Unique has a sway bar about 2.5" from the back of the radiator. A SPAL is only 2.25" thick.

Clay,
That is the one that is in my unique. (the Flex-a-lite) (not the greatest looking unit, but it came with the car and works well (when the permanent magnets are not coming unglued from the motor case thus requiring disassembly and re- bonding in the middle of the friggen Austin Cobra meet ), so I have not replaced it ----Yet] ) My car never had the sway bar so it fits. Have you driven your car without a sway bar? Just curious as to how much difference it makes.
My friends car has an existing 16" fan that looks almost identical to the new Spal unit we ordered. I had spent allot of time making him a custom fan shroud and don't want to have to redo it, so the Spal fits our criteria well.
My Unique:
My friend Paul Risch's Classic Roadsters Cobra that we had to totally rebuild. (long, tragic story) The Spal should just about be a bolt-on to the hand made shroud, so it was a logical choice for us.

Steve,
My car is a '98 and came with the sway bar, and I think they've been std. at least that long. So, I haven't driven one without.
I don't recall seeing a picture of your car before. The engine looks great.

Clay,
My car has the mounting provisions for a sway bar, but for some reason, the bar was not on the car when I bought it. I think the car handles just fine without it. I might not realize what I'm missing though.....
Thanks for the complement. I have done allot of work on the ole $hit box. There are a few other photos in my gallery.
Steve
BTW, Nice looking powerplant

The FanMan is turning out to be pretty disorganized. We are half expecting two fans to show up. News as it develops......
