Post Original tube chassis

I’ve finally started my cobra project, and I’m looking to clear up some questions. I found the answer to the round/square tail lights, but for now I’m looking to find out when the original chassis started running the square tubing from the front suspension diagonally above the foot wells to the windshield support. I see that the first 289 cars with leaf springs ran a 1 inch round tube, while the later 427 street cars ran a 1 inch square tube. I’m sure some of you know when this change occurred. Thanks for any help.

you've got it pinned down... the CSX2xxx cars, leaf-spring, had the round tube and the CSX3xxx, coil spring, had the square tube.

A little clarification, the coil spring cars have 3/4" square and the leaf spring cars have 3/4" round tubes.

Here is a photo of the last leaf spring chassis Shelby recieved:

Thanks for the clarification, now here are some more Q's. I've seen both round tubing and square tubing (both on reproduction cars) for the front suspension supports on the coil spring cars, specificaly the upright "X" forward of the engine between the suspension supports. Whats the story on this? Thanks
