Throttle cable bind
I have a Classic Roadster that employs a Lokar universal throttle cable. 351W; Barry Grant Race Demon. For the life of me, I cannot get the secondaries to open up more than 75%. It is not a cable length or gas pedal adjustment issue. I have set it up with the base line having the carb already 50% open. Stab the throttle, cable gets the secondaries 75% open and then starts to contort - bind. I have two return springs which are mandatory for tracking. Even without the springs, it still binds. Are there any good throttle cables out there? I would love to run a rod linkage setup, but not sure where to get the parts or how to set it up.

I am using the same cable on my car it was hooked to a 750 Eldelbrock and now a 670 Holley, I didn't have any problems with either, could you have a problem with your butterfly valves hitting something, do you have the correct manifold gasket or spacer.

Thats a good idea. I believe my gaskets and spacer are correct, but I will check. I can manually work the throttle to 100% so if there is an obstruction, it is not much.

Check your cable alignment compared to the pedal end under the dash. Mine was off. Get under the dash and push the pedal down by hand. Ensure the cable is centered in it's housing at WOT. I had to redrill the hole in the firewall and relocated the cable housing to realign it. Mine was doing the same thing as yours untill I moved the cable. I have the Lokar setup too.

Curt,
On my brothers FFR, we ran the cable around the front of the carb so that it pulls the bottom of the crank to open the throttle. Routing it that way, it only has one bend and zero binding.
I'll probably do the same on my Hurricane when I get to that point.
Just a thought for your situation.

I think I got it figured out. You guys got me thinking. I watched the arm closely as the throttle opened. The throttle arm is pulled down and around in order to open the blade. Once the arm, where the cable mounts to it, becomes parrallel with the cable, the cable ceases to pull it down any further and starts trying to pull it straight back. There is no way it can come down any further and it justs binds up. I am adjusting the cable bracket device to allow more downward pull. That should solve my problem
