Teflon Tape on Intake Bolts
I am bolting a Edelbrock Performer RPM intake on a FE 390 with ARP bolts. A friend of mine suggested I use teflon tape on the bolt threads. I have not done this in the past and was wondering if I should be paying attention to his suggestions. Thanks for the input!

I wouldn't use anything, its not necessary. If you really want to use a sealer of some sort, use silicon, not teflon tape.

If the holes are blind, you dont need anything. Not sure where the 390 is on this issue.

If you ever use teflon (on hydraulic plugs, etc., not bolts or nuts), use teflon paste instead of tape.
Use motor oil on the intake bolts, as they need some sort of lubrication to get the correct torque.

The tape will interfer with correct torque readings necessary for proper head and intake sealing.
Is it possible you missunderstood the person as me might have said to use teflon thread sealer. This is a paste used to seal the studs in the block and heads to prevent them from seezing and leaking.
On an intake, there may be water passages in the head sealed off and may need this paste. The paste is teflon based and is ALSO use to seal plumbing threads.
The problem with Silicon is it may drop small pieces into the lifter valley causing problems.

Very possible I misunderstood him. I am going to nix the teflon idea - at least for this particular application. Thanks for the replies. It's always good to get other opinions.

Just an informational tidbit...the intake bolts on FEs aren't in contact with water.
