Default Best Performing Drop Based Air Cleaner?

I'm trying to determine what Air Filter I want to run on the car. I'm trying to find something that has good flow to it, but has a dropped base so it fits under the hood. I can always go with the round air cleaner 14", but I'm just not fond of that look.

Any thoughts? Here are some specs on the motor.

Demon 750 Single Carb, Vr Jr Heads and Intake, 425 w. 10.5:1 comp.

Cheers,

There is a speed shop here in Tulsa that sells the drop base 14" round air cleaners in chrome for about $15.00. The element is fine for our Cobra's but if you want something different you can always order a K&N filter and drop it into your filter housing. I believe they are around $50.

When I had my engine dyno'd I tested it with the drop base w/ standard filter, then with K&N filter in the drop base , and then with no filter. Both air filters showed comparative HP numbers, but I found that I was loosing about 12 hp going with any kind of air filter. Both had sufficient air flow for my 427 engine.

1) Go with a K&N filter (or Accel). They flow the most air by a wide margin.
2) Use the largest diameter that will fit and not hit the hood (preferably 14").

Looks are not that important if you use a peanut air cleaner that robs 50 HP.
