Default Leaking gas tank! No go kaboom please!

Noticed on ERA #414 that there is gas leaking from the tank, and appears to be coming from the top. Fuel is coming over the rear edge of the tank and running along the surface and collecting on the flat bottom surface and then dripping off. It doesn't seem to be a single stream. It's the standard ERA tank not a fuel cell. Any ideas? Could it be overflow from the last fill-up - I topped it off last time out.

Appreciate any ideas before I have to drain it and pull it.
Thanks!
Scott

My SPF throws a little gas on the ground after filling it completely. It comes out of the vent tube. Suggest going for a long ride and use up some of the gas. Then see if its leaking.

Scott,

The first thing you should do is get under the car and tighten down ever fitting and clamp, don't forget the clamps in the trunk. After that you can check to see if this has stopped the leakage. If not, then it's time to get back under the car and start searching for a hole in a line or the tank itself.

If you really topped the tank off, it could be coming from the fuel level sending unit. Unfortunately, you have to drop the tank to examine that area.
The other possibility is where the hose connects to the tank neck on the passenger's side of the trunk.

Check the fuel vent - sometimes when cornering hard, gas is pushed out the vent. Try a fuel vent check-valve if you suspect this is the problem.

Not sure where the filler neck goes into the tank on your car but I had a gas leak 1 spring. My filler neck is connected to the tank buy a large piece of tubing. I have it double clamped on both sides. After siting dry for a winter the first fill up of the year gave me a leak at that tubing. Tightened the hose clamps and all has been fine since.
Just 1 more thing on the spring checkup list.
