Default Fuel pump regulator & misc.

I'm looking for a fuel pump regulator with a fuel pressure gauge option. Anybody have any suggestions?

What size fuel line are you running from the main feed line to the regulator?

Any words of wisdom about locating the fuel filter before or after the regulator?

I've been looking into changing my fuel supply set up and here's a couple of things that I've found in my "research" relative to your questions:
- There are several regulators out there and many have a 1/4" npt port for a fuel gauge - try Summit and Jegs. Holley, Barry Grant, and others make regulators
- The fuel line size is somewhat dictated by the engine's fuel requirements - 600 HP drag machine is going to need more flow than a 350 HP street job. I'm going to use -8 AN from fuel pump to regulator and -6 AN from regulator to carb
- Most setups show filter placed before regulator with regulator as close to the carb as is practical. Have seen carb inlet fittings with filter screens in them but these appear to be secondary filtering, not the primary filter mechanism
- One tip said that you should step down the line size as it passes each major restriction point in the flow ie - 10 AN" from tank to pump, -8 AN from pump to regulator, and -6 AN from regulator to carb.
- Try to use hard line from tank to pump to avoid suction collapsing a rubber line.
- Using a by-pass with a return line to the fuel tank will help keep more constant fuel pressure and keep fuel cooler as it continues to flow
- Route lines and put fittings and regulators away from engine heat sources to reduce vapor lock and heating of fuel.

Whatever you do...If you decide to go with an electric pump go with a quality unit. I have run Holley pumps in the past with good results but some of the others aren't always a good idea if you want reliable transportation. Nothing like loosing fuel pressure at about 5000 miles from a worn pump. It happened to me once I personally like mechanical pumps, that's me though. Others feel differently. There are many different regulators out there that can be plumbed in different configurations. Look around for one that works best for your situation & fuel line routing. Buy a decent pressure guage so you know the reading is accurate
