Axle Installation Issue: Spacer

All:
I am installing the axle shafts into my rear end. My instructions tell me to adhere the spacer to the bearing with RTV silcone. I am having an issue keeping the spacer to stay against the bearing. I have been using RTV silicone as the "glue" but just as I get ready to hammer the last blow.....the spacer falls. This happened on BOTH sides. Any suggestions how I can keep this spacer attached to the bearing so it stays aligned?

Needless to say, I am now hunting for an axle puller as I don't have enough room to reattache the spacer.
