Oil Pump Installation - Gasket or No?
I have been told that when installing an oil pump on my 351W block I should not use a gasket. Does that make any sense? With no gasket, aren't you risking a pressure leak right off the bat (or right out of the pump)? If no gasket is the appropriate technique, could someone please explain why?
Thanks!

I wouldn't think of running with out a gasket:eek:

Mine came from Ford with a gasket between the oil pump and block and between the pump and the pick up tube. I don't plan on trying to outsmart those engineers.

I quit using a gasket years ago. The reason won't please most but if you are an engine builder you would know that many GM engines don't use gaskets. Some of them only have 1 fastner others 2 or 3 (Chevrolet, Pontiac, Olds, ect.) but no gaskets.
Oh.... why did I quit using a gasket on the Fords when they supply one in the kit? Because I failed a gasket (pushed out between the bolts) and had a internal leak. JMO
