SPF Parking Brake

I just purchased a SPF Mark III and the parking brak does not work, and it appears to have never worked. I've tried every adjustment and can't get it to fully engage the rotor on the drive shaft. Any suggestions?

That parking brake on the driveshaft is the newer version. Suggest you contact closest rep for help. The old version was a waste of time.

go to your local RV store and buy two plastic tire 'chocks'....tie a rope to them so you can yank them into the car from inside the cockpit when you are ready to leave . the parking brakes on most are ornamental. the new styles work good, the old styles were intermittent. some worked , some don't . mine works but not on steep grades, hence the chock for me- just like the planes use. i am always worried when parked on some incline that some yahoo will lean into the car or get into it as some goofballs have done and flick the gearshift out of 1st and into neutral and my turn key car becomes a roller once again. yep, chocks run about $5, come in different colors . like your aaa card and cell phone, don't leave home without em. bill

Hi Cody:

Was your problem ever solved? I have the same issue. The pads are worn, but not excessively. Mine are about 1/8 inch thick. It seems the spring which pushes the pads away from the disc is too thick. The pads cannot contact the rotor because the spring is collasped and cannot contract futher. Maybe the pads are suppose to be much thicker than an 1/8 inch.

I've got the new style brake and it's been fixed twice and still went out of adjustment...in less then a month. I'm about to see what other options are out there...because it's frustrating using the tranny to hold the car in place. I've thought about contacting Wilwood and seeing if they offer a rear disk option for the brake.

I got my parking brake in a box when I bought my car from its previous owner. He said it never worked properly and when he went to the wilwoods he never put it back on. I know Wilwood offers a parking brake rotor kit that goes in the drum of the rotors, but I think its a special package you have to buy. http://www.wilwood.com/Products/002-...DDPB/index.asp.

I thought I was going to freak out without a parking brake, but have learned to live without it. It would be more frustrating to have one on it that didn't work. My understanding is that on the early cars, lots of people removed it.

If you consider it an "emergency brake", the thought of driving without it may be more likely to freak you out...

LOL...ya, thats true, but my understanding is that it would never have been very good at that... I think if my brakes fail, I would just feel worse to tug on the e-brake and have it not work too. I think I would rather leave this world with only one reason to say "OH $*&(*&W#".
