Just read the July 2006 issue of Consumer Reports. They tested car waxes in the "old stand-by" paste in a can, liquids and the newer Spray types.

Very interesting in that the top rated waxes were the liquids and not the paste wax in a can! See below – numbers in parenthesis are CR ratings based upon tests.

I took Art's advice a couple of years ago and tried the NTX. I think it's terrific stuff. The results are great and it comes off with ease.

For many years we have used a product called Garrys Royal Satin for our cars prior to show. Hard to find but well worth the search. If you have oxidation on old paint (heaven forbid), it will literally disappear before your eyes. Note: We always used two coats of Royal Satin to deepen the color and get uniformity. The life of this wax is very short on the car, however and I would recommend a good Carnuba as a third coat. The depth of color it brings out is really extraordinary, however.

I haen't believed a consumer reports test since they tested two identical computers (with different names on them) and came out with very different results. This was years ago, and it looks like nothing has changed. I am sure some of their "stuff" is OK, but do they really know how to prepare and wax a car? I guess I should read how they did the test to see if it makes sense. But then I would be giving money to them. Also, look at the cars they say are the best. Would you drive any of them. Probably not.

I remember reading their review of ten speed bikes as a kid. They said that they were too dangerous to consider, since you could forget to apply the rear brakes and just use the front brakes and flip over forwards. Well, DUH!

Even then, as a kid, I went , and realized as Bugs Bunny would say "What a bunch of maroons!!!"

Well...I just treated my F-250 and my wife's Miata with a

one-step-wipe-on-wipe-off showcar finish in a can

and they both look great with a minimum of effort on my part.

"Car wash boy" over there may disagree, but while he's waxing the sh!t out of his car, I'll be out driving mine and it looks pretty dam good to me, although if I had a trailer queen, I'd probably hire someone like him to whup a real hodoo shine on it!

I had read the comparison on the computer security issue out of curiosity. The AV program we use wasn't listed. They didn't look at any stand alone firewalls. Plus:

I try to keep my cars, my truck, and my boat looking good. One-step-cleaner-waxes are OK if the vehicle has been kept quite clean and there isn't any oxidation etc. However, if you want to do a really good job, you have to take the time to clean the surface properly, remove swirls, etc, then apply a good carnauba wax. For a much better explanation see STG's post on page 2.

I spoke to a wax producer who told me that their paste wax and their liquid wax both started with the same carnauba wax base but the liquid wax contained some solvent to make it easier to use. Paste wax can be a real pain if allowed to dry too much before buffing or if too much is applied. Waxing in direct sunlight is a sure way to make a tough job, more difficult.

I don't have any trailer queens, I just like my toys to look good.

With a similar amount of respect, I invite you to reread my previous post. I didn't say my cars look "better"; I said they look "pretty dam good". I did give credit where credit was due, however, and said if I had a trailer queen, I'd hire someone like you to wash and wax it.
