No sidewall = no advertising. It will never fly.

That is, unless they imbed those cool LEDs into them (like they do on some custom wheels). Then when you roll you would see a huge GOOD YEAR in lights.

I have seen some of the tech data and this is sweet!

No air, no blowouts, wears even and is light weight.

Find the video clip if you can, it shows the assmbly on a huge pot hole ( or normal Michigan road ).

I would guess that they could put a "non-functional" sidewall on if they wanted to.

The tires don't hold air but my first thought was 'air car' when I saw the pic. Interesting technology there.

Those picture are about 2 years old or more (?) Very unusual design, I bet we will see them with sidewalls.

Angry Airless tires....

I bet we won't see them at all. Development of airless tires has been around
nearly as long as the car itself, a century later and we're still driving on air!
I think if Michelin wants to succeed with their airless tire, they have to make
it look like a conventional tire. In it's current form, I have little doubt
that consumers would reject it. The car looks like it has bicycle wheels on it!

I wonder what would happen if you carved up a muddy road.... would all that lovely mud get stuck in the grooves? That would do wonders to the wheel balance!
I think side walls would be a must!
The new mini's on the road already have a simmilar design, they are called 'running flats' and cost around $500 AUS.

My guess is that the difficult part is designing "spokes" that provide a smooth ride, yet don't fail under constant flexing as would be seen in thousands of miles.

Don't the "run flat" tires last only for a couple hundred miles at a specified speed.

They may not hold air, but I bet they would "churn" up a bunch of it. I can hear the complaints now...." It sounded like a Jet took off right over my head".

Not only mud would cause a balance problem but in the winter, snow, slush, etc would also send them out of wack. They would have to have side walls.

I think the ricer community would love them, anything they can do to make their cars look special without giving it any hp. They would be spay painting them silver and wrapping aluminum foil around the spokes.
