Unhappy Recommendations for fuel cell on a Contemporary Cobra

Hel-lo...I am in the process of replacing my original fuel tank on my Contemporary Cobra. Basically, the current setup is a modified '69 Camaro gas tank, set up with the LeMans fuel filler (inlet on the side).

I want to replace this with a new fuel cell (for safety reasons), and wanted to know recommendations/contacts for companies that I might be able to contact. I had done some initial ground work on manufacturers for fuel cells, and another Contemporary Cobra owner who is also looking for a new cell had provided me some information from ATL in New Jersey. He had drawings, photos, and part numbers for a fuel cell manufactured by ATL that was a direct fit.

So, when I did contact ATL in New Jersey on both our behalf, they mentioned no such part number or photo ever existed, unless we could reference it to a customer name. Since I could not do that, I asked for a quote. They were very pricey, since they mentioned having to custom build a fuel cell for my car.

I also tried to contact Fuel Safe in Oregon; however, since I had no direct contact person there, I believe my fax went the route of no response and into a trash can. When I did call Fuel Safe and mentioned "Cobra" they thought I was talking about the Cobra Mustang.

Anyway, I am open to any suggestions on what is available.

Thanks for the assist! George

Harold Lawrence is the specialty guy at Fuel safe. (harold@fuelsafe.com)

Give him drawings of what you need: Overall dimensions and where you want the filler and sender fittings. They will make an aluminum case with a bladder inside. One-offs might cost up to $1500.

Default Fuel Cell

George Bob Self in Amber PA own a contemporary cobra for 20 years. I think he has a fuel cell I will call him tonight and get back to you. You can custom an ATL 20-22 gallon cell into the back of the car but will take some of the truck space up. I will e-mail you tomorrow. Rick Lake

Fuel Safe will build what every you want them to. I had them build me an aluminum professional cell based on dimiensions of the stock tank. They are very easy to work with.
