You said it. I'm still using a few tools from when I had to buy them and pi$$ in the back yard that week. (Hell, I'm still using a few tools from my dad's younger days...)
Feels good to just put a wrench on something or read a dial that tells you something useful, instead of undoing a bunch of quik-snap connections to hook up a computer.
