backdraft hood falling shut
anyone have a solution other than a stick? have car 169 with one gabriel gaslift shock to hold it up. was thinking about adding another one. everytime the car gets on a slight angle the hood comes crashing down, usually when i am under it.

BDR Gaslift Hood-Lock
Salesco,
I have been working on a BDR Gaslift Hood-Lock. I have a prototype that I made and have been using it with good results. I am making about 10 more at this time.
It is polished aluminum with a "REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT" flag. Looks really nice under the hood, when installed on the gaslift.
I will be at Knott's April 22 & 23, 2006 for the A.H.A show. I will have my BDR and Serpent Express there. If you go, look me up and you can see the Hood-Lock in action.
The BDR Gaslift Hood-Locks are $20 each, includes first class shipping. Send me a PM or email with your shipping information. PayPal is available, if you wish.

Wayne
I can't quite tell from the picture but is this in addition to the gas shock or does it replace it. How long does it take to raise the hood and setup?
Is it bolted or does it clip into place? Hard to tell from the pics.
Thanks

Trueoo7,
The Hood-Lock slip-fits on to the gaslift shaft and then it is hitch-pinned, so it won't fall off. The hitch pin does not grab the gaslift shaft and there is no modification to the gaslift at all. It takes about 10 seconds to attach.
The "REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT" flag is attached to the hitch pin, so it won't get lost easily if you drop it and it's a cool reminder.
Once you see it, you will probably say "Why didn't I think of this?" A simple fix to a common problem with earlier BDR's with the 4041 type Gabriel Gaslift hood prop.

Wayne,
How the heck are you and your family? I hope all is well with you, your wife and the baby.
Do you still have some of the hood locks? My shock has finally given up the ghost and I caught the hood in mid collapse just before it slammed down. So,I think it is time to do something! Let me know if you have them.
Thanks,
SkipB

Hey SkipB,
We are doing great! Stephanie is 9 months now and crawling and standing. Just came back from WSCB and had a great time.
I still have a few Hood-Locks left. PM or email me.
It's getting hot here in the desert!

Simple solution for falling hood!
I really didn't like the look of the factory hood "stick" at car shows! I don't think there is a lot of options....I fabricated this simple prop that really isn't noticable when in place ..Alot of people must feel the same way, I have sold a few at shows. There is Pic's in my gallery.

Secret Squirrel,
My check is in the mail for one of your hood locks. It sure beats a prop rod!
