ANNOUNCEMENT:
COBRA ROUNDUP to be held at THUNDERHILL RACEWAY
July 2, 2009
(Limited to Cobras, Daytona Coupes, Ford GT/40’s)
Hi Everyone:
Well, we’ve been very busy getting
Cobra Roundup off the ground. Due to unforeseen circumstances, we have found it necessary to cancel the Reno-Fernley event which was slated for May, 2009. Our number one goal has been, and continues to be, providing you with the best track event we can muster, and as any good track dawg knows, safety and fun are major components of any successful track event. In other words, we want the very best for you!
The decision to cancel the May event was not done lightly, but virtually as that decision was being made, good luck seemed to be shining on these track dawgs. Early last week, an opportunity that only the track-gods themselves could have conjured up, presented itself. As we were searching for a viable alternate venue for Cobra Roundup, we discovered that Thunderhill Raceway, located in Willows, California, is available on July 2, 2009. The date is a Thursday, but, here’s the really good news…..
Some of you may already know this, but the 26th annual Northern California Shelby American Automobile Club (Nor-Cal SAAC) “Mini Nats” will be held on July 3-5, 2009 and once again at Thunderhill Raceway. What a coincidence!
Long story short, we are now planning to hold our
Cobra Roundup Event: Thunderhill one day before the Mini Nats. NorCal-SAAC and Thunderhill are excited to have us, and all feel it will be fun to have a bunch of Cobras, Daytona coupes, and GT40s help kick-off next year’s Mini Nats.
We’ve talked briefly about Cobra Roundup joining the Friday Mini Nats festivities, which includes police escorted drive (all Cobras & race cars) from the track and through the town of Willows, and will end with a car show at the park, a BBQ by the Willows Fire Department, 60’s music, and more. Sounds like a really fun party!
Cobra Roundup will be running the same groups (novice, intermediate, advanced, women’s), same instructor group (River City Shelby Club with Karen and Eric as your group leaders), but we’ll now have a bigger track & facility for our event. Thunderhill Raceway is challenging but fun, recently resurfaced, and smooth as silk with lots of runoff. The paddock is paved with plenty of room for parking, large shaded pit areas, gas pumps, dyno shop, food & drink with covered eating area, nice bathrooms / showers, and large meeting rooms that overlook the front straightaway. For those of you that have not been to Thunderhill Raceway, you are in for a real treat!

With the uncertain economy in mind, we would like to keep the cost to register for CR’09 at an absolute minimum. The reality is the more cars on the track, the less we have to charge. With the potential popularity of this event and weekend, I think we can cut costs. So help us get the word out and we’ll get the price down!
Also for folks not wanting to drive on the track, that’s ok too. Many of you live close enough to Thunderhill that you could bring your cars up anyway just to hang out with us, spend the night, and join in all the festivities. We think you’ll have a lot of fun whether you’re driving on the track or not. Can you say Cobra Blowout?
CR’09 could be a blowout event, and I would encourage you to contact us early so we can put you on our signup list. We will have a car limit, for track participants, to ensure the quality of this event. If you think you would like to participate in CR’09 at Thunderhill (driving on track or as a spectator) please send me an email by January 15, 2009 so we can anticipate your interest and how many may be attending. Those who have already reserved a spot for the May event, please reconfirm so we may continue to hold your spot:

In closing, the folks at RFR have always been great to work with in supporting WSCB-Track Days in the past. We wish them luck next year, but it’s just not in the cards for our event.
Thanks to everyone who Pre-registered for CR’09. We’ve had a good response with lots of enthusiasm to continue the Track Day tradition, and we anticipate that even more of our Cobra, Coupe, and GT40 friends will be joining us at this new event. I apologize for the plan-change confusion, but this will be worth it. We are in the process of updating our website, so please be patient as we solidify plans for
Cobra Roundup next year at Thunderhill Raceway!
Thanks and talk soon,
John Marsey & CR’09 Team
