turkeypan
Just dropped the body on my Unique Cobra. I have a 351w bored and stroked to 410 with a airgap manifold. Well my big oval cobra aircleaner wont fit. Has anyone used a turkey pan with an original Stellings on a 351. Not certain it won't have interference issues with the distributor. Thanks

I had to modify the baseplate on my long oval to get it to fit. Would about an inch more clearance at the rear make it fit under the hood?

I can provide all details but the basics are this:
Grind the carb collar down so that it's nil in the rear and about half original height in the front, tapered as smoothly as whatever tools you have will let you.
Where the carb's rear float screw sticks up, drill a hole big enough to let it pass through, with some extra room.
That should let the baseplate settle down towards the rear so that the AC clears the hood. I have a more standard setup than you, but I went from a quarter or so of interference to over a half inch of clearance.
To seal the hole over the float screw, I used a circular gasket from a brake fluid cap (generic part from NAPA) and epoxied it to the outside (bottom) of the baseplate. It dimples up nicely over the float screw and provides a bumper to keep it from banging up the carb surface.
Polish up all your work and re-spray it black satin (before you glue on the gasket...) and yer done.
Details/pix if you need them. Hope it works for you. Oh, you'll want the K&N filter for the housing, but you have to stay with the original height (about 1" of filter). I had been hoping to get enough room for the 2", but nahhhh.

I put the Stellings air cleaner inside the turkey pan in my first car with no clearance issues. It was mounted on a 351 Cleveland but I think that will not matter to you with a Windsor. Good luck.

You can also use the S&H cleaner by itself (it breathes fairly well with a K&N), or use another style such as the Holley short-oval. If you're after an original look, though, it's turkey pan or long oval.

I've got a turkey pan on a windsor and the the stellings & heller air cleaner. The difficulty was that you have to modify the T-pan to clear the distributor.

Fresh Air Box
If you want the turkey pan for looks it will take a lot of work to make it look rite. If you want it for function I made my own because I have a vic jr on top of a 408 and had breathing problems. If you check out my gallery there are pics of the air box and pannel that seals to the hood scoop. What you can't see is the hole for the top of the carb is off center in the box so that it will be center on the hood. This allowed me to use a 11 inch x 2 inch K&N with a filter top which gives the motor lots of fresh air.
Cheers Greg

I've been customising turkey pans for people or selling them parts to do their own. I can supply the laser cut base by itself so you can move the pan forward or back on it and/or make it removeable.

MFE III (Matt);
I have the same size distributor and cap you look to have.
Can you explain what you did and how the work was done.
I am using a Barry Grant Speed Demon 650 carb.
Thanks,
Jim
