Hi Mark,
These are Ford Racing engines that have the 12 month 12,000 mile warranty. I think it's a great deal. I can assemble it to turnkey and run it on my engine dyno....

I was going to ask a similar question. The Victor Jrs. (and I believe AFRs) have 2.05 intakes. How come Ford skimped on flow and stuck with 2.02's?

Also what is the lobe center angle on the cam? 112*? 110*?

Can one of you engine guru's determine the difference between this engine and the Roush 427? I know one is a Boss 351 block and one is a Dart. Any big difference between those two? It also looks like the Ford has a little higher compression ratio. It looks to be about $5K cheaper than the Roush.

The Roush engine is similar but different. They are both good engines and the Roush is more money. This is a smoking deal for everything included.

Check the parts list again... this Ford Racing 427W is more of a Long Block Plus if you will, not a complete engine, no dyno, no 2 year warranty with labor... etc.

Nice motor. It's list is about $1100 less than a Smeding 427w, but you don't get the carb, dizzy, wires,plugs,intake manifold, dyno or additional 12 month warranty.

The Edelbrock Vic Jr., Holley carb & dual feed line, MSD distribtor & wire set plus, alt bracket, pulley kit & alt, starter will total about $1800.00. That is still $3000.00 less than the Roush 427.
With all the intake options & choice of EFI or Holley Carb, Stack injection or Webers, the parts that are not included are what most people change anyways....

Sometimes it's not just the parts themselves but the quality of the parts as well... don't forget the billet wire looms, air cleaner, k&n filter, flywheel, block plate, fuel pump, fuel lines and fittings, additional hardware to complete, etc.

The head to heads sometimes get a bit muddy...

That said the engine is a great value, exactly why we are embracing it: Backdraft / Ford Racing 427 Promotion

I agree the Roush is complete. The Ford Racing 427 lets you build it the way you want with the "Look" you may want. Call it artistic possibilities!!! I really like the "427-W" valve covers...
Anyone interested in one of these Ford engines, I can finish assemble it and dyno it before pickup or delivery.

I hope the Ford 427 performs, I cant wait to see some actual dyno numbers and run hours on them. As usual it will go back to quality control during the assemlby and balancing.
I have been thrilled with my Roush and for a pessimistic bastard like me that says alot. Now if I can save a couple / three grand on my next project and get the same result I am all for it.

It sounds like a great thing and I think certainly will change things in the crate engine industry, not from the Roush, I think people are willing to pay more for a Roush to get it from Roush, I think most people by a Roush to say it is a Roush and I cannot blame them for that.

But for a smaller crate engine building companies building a 427w specifically geared towards the kit builder at $10K, 12k or more (complete mind you) with no Dyno, no brand name to build from, rebuilt from a old block in Lord knows what condition, I would certainly think this would impact how many they sell or would have to review their pricing.

I like the fact it does not come with the other stuff and is incomplete, certainly thats adds to the cost, but I don't want to use FMS stuff anyway on the balance of the motor.

This is a great deal...I wish I had another project to dump it in.

I agree. The bottom line will be longevity and customer service. I have heard good and bad stores about FMS. I have also heard and good and bad about Roush. I have never heard bad about Keith Craft customer service out of the Arkansas branch. The best warranty is the one you never need. If KC can compete on price he could take the market. In the end he will be in between Roush and FMS and should have no problems selling his engines.

I did end up going with KC's 427w and am very pleased. The Ford 427 is an outstanding value with all good components. Two reasons why I did'nt go with Ford Racing are first the time delays and the biggest is the fact that the exhaust ports on the Z heads are .600 higher. Not sure of other kits but on the Hurricane that would put the (supplied) headers right into the brake masters and the steering shaft. Did'nt really care to modify or replace them. My KC dynoed at 563 HP and 583 TRQ. with a 2 year warranty and a very reasonable COMPLETE engine price. Dan, Hurricane #1011

Just a note the FMS might have the Roush engineering behind it, Roush does do allot with Ford in general.

The positives on either a Roush or FMS is the dealer network for parts or repair, not saying anything against KC just they don't have the same network.

Also as eluded to above the best warranty is the one you don't use.
