Maybe the second statement has something to do with the first. You're using a quart every 1,000-1,500 miles. That's a lot of oil for something used so gently.
...Centigrade....it normally runs at 95-100 centigrade...

Well. That's very differant. Never mind.

But, burning a qt every 1,000-1,500 miles is a lot of oil.

I agree, you may have blow by from a ring or valve seal that's cracked.
Perform a compression/leak down check. With only 6,000 miles, that's not a good sign. Sorry for this thought but, check it soon before anything worse happens.

Mobil has a worldwide presence, & you should be able to find Mobil 1 synthetic oils. I use Mobil 1 15w-50, and have for over 9 years & over 37,000 miles in the same engine. There has been no measurable wear over that time & mileage span. No leaks either.

Engine not raced, but sees hard use from extended high rpm and supercharger.

A quick update.

So far I am very happy with the full synth 10-60 motorsport (aka quaker state 10-60?).

Increase in oilpressure while idleing warm engine. No 0 pressure at quick 360- turns (althoug not fully tested yet). Very little blow- out of crankcase evacuation hoses.

OK; idle is a little higher at 11-1200 rpm and maybe also more stable with 2 idle stop screws on the webers. Evacuation hoses have gone from 12 to 16mm (1/2" to 5/8") inner diameter (and vent tube from 6? to 12mm?). These things are also partly causing the positive results above.

That sounds like too much oil to me for that setup, and the oil sounds a bit too thick , that oil temp also sounds high, and are you saying you are cruising at 5000?

Should be about 9.5 to 10 qts depending on pan.

With 6000 miles on the clock you should be down to 1 qt per 1000 miles on the ford racing windsors , hopefully less.

Have you done a static and leak-down compression on your cylinders ?

Interesting. I also have the 351 Windsor Ford Racing 385 hp engine. Bulletproof. I change the oil once a year. I use Mobil1 0-40. Burns no oil - no need to add anything between changes. Around 60 lbs pressure.

But 7 quarts fills it. Do these engines come with different pans?

Must...mine takes 12 quarts....Ford (Roush) Dealer just serviced it and used a new(?) Ford synthetic XO 5W50 and a FL-1HP filter...the Mechanic said to monitor the temps and consumption but that he didn"t see any reason to think that anything was wrong...we shall see...runs great...thanks Pan and others...
