Default Motorsports Roller Distributor Gear- what color?

Greetings!

I'm building up a 331 using Ford Motorsports bits and pieces. I have one new dist gear that has YELLOW paint markings, and I know that it is for a roller cam.

I also have a late model Duraspark II distributor that has an ORANGE paint stripe on it, and the guy "claims" that he had it in his roller motor for a short time, which appears to be correct, very little wear pattern.

Does anybody know if Ford used different colors on the roller cam gears??????? Is orange indeed a roller cam color? I'd rather not change it if I don't have to disturb the one that is already there.....

Thanks in advance!!!
Steve

Per the Ford Performance Parts book, (available online too)
"Part # M-12390-A: Material/cast iron; Color/ Orange (the gear).
For use in 289/302 hydraulic flat tappet engines with point type or Duraspark distributors."

Sounds like this was for a late 70's/early 80's 302 before roller cams.

Default Thanks!

Rick,

..lent out my Motorsports catalog...still waitin' for it to come back through that door....

Wasn't exactly what I was told it would be, but I think it will do the trick for for me if I just change the gear..otherwise it is a new Duraspark II unit. Fresh module etc.

Just found out the yellow gear won't work either! It is for a later EFI 302 or a 351W with the larger .531" shaft....ugh. So close.... and I dug out a third gear from my project box, and it alas...yellow paint! Makes worrying about a 351W roller gear all the less to worry about!!! ...when I get to that 351 EFI conversion.......

Spares are always good...!

Thanks much!!!
Steve
