Did they also try selling him "Muffler bearings" you know they have them in bronze, gold and now platinum! Other than car wax, I'd stay away from those guy's. They once swore to me that a 66 Mustang didn't come from the factory with front disc. brakes!!

Yes it actually did! They also replaced my clutch on my 66 Mustang. My father took it in and handled it as I was 16 years old. They told him my drive shaft was too long! They had a really hard time getting it out and it had to be shortened. My father said well ok and let them do it. Needless to say it didn't need to be shortened as it was the freggin lift they had it on. The rear end was dropped all the way down which put the drivesaft in a bind! I almost didn't have enough drive shaft after they got it back in! That was when I took over my repairs! Matt

Per my conversion chart:
5.0 = 302 through 307
5.2 = 318
5.4 = 327, 330
5.7 = 345, 350
5.8 = 351
5.9 = 360
The chart goes from 1.0 up to 8.8 but I won't swear to its accuracy.

Well Actually Pep Boys might have it right!
"In the 1980s the 302 became more commonly known as the 5.0 Liter, although its metric displacement (4942 cc) accurately rounds to 4.9 L. It is speculated[who?] that Ford used the "5.0" moniker to distinguish the 302 from the 300 cu in inline Six, which was known as the 4.9. Despite its advertised displacement, Car and Driver referred to the 302 – correctly – as a 4.9 liter engine."
HaHa!
Engine displacement is determined from the bore and stroke of an engine's cylinders. The bore is the diameter of the circular chambers cut into the cylinder block.
\mbox{displacement} = {\pi\over 4} \times \mbox{bore}^2 \times \mbox{stroke} \times \mbox{number of cylinders}
Examples: The 427 Chevy bore is 4.312 in, and the stroke is 3.65 in, therefore the displacement for this 8-cylinder engine is:
3.1416/4 * 4.3122 * 3.65 * 8 = 426.4 CID.
If the bore is 10 cm and the stroke is 5 cm with 4 cylinders, the calculation is:
3.1416/4 * 102 * 5 * 4 = 1570 cm3 ≈ 1.5 liters
Just for you Cashburn!

Pep Boys is correct. During the early '70's, when first trying to deal with pollution control laws, Ford made a 5.0 351. It used the 351 block with the 302 crank, rods, and pistons, making for a 5.0 liter displacement. It provided a low compression, low pollution solution. This was in production only in 1970. Very rare, but Pep Boys has a keen eye and well trained staff.

I'd say the line "Pep Boys has a keen eye and well trained staff." gives it away.

With the pistons 1.310" down in the hole, the SCR would be about 2.78:1.

I have # 16 of 700. This rare engine, which comes complete with endless diesel knocking when shut off, produces a magnificent 120hp. It only has 37k miles on it and is completely original, including the original air filter, oil filter, and oil! It also has 40 vacuum hoses, of which at least 3 are leaking at any one time, guaranteeing modest performance and choking exhaust fumes.
I love this motor, but due to distress in the family, I have to put this beauty up for auction. It has to go to a good home. If you have a rusted out 1970 Ford that needs that something special; if you are a TRUE Ford guy; if you still wear bell-bottomed plaid pants; then this might be the motor for you.
