Default Dart 427w is done

I just finished installing my new Dart 427w engine in my Superformance. I will be firing it next week. I've been running a Ford Motorsport 351w for about 12 years. It was time for a change and move up to a 427w. I will let you know next week how it went.

What heads, manifold, carb and camshaft?

Dart block is a stout stout stout block, glad to see you are taking advantage of it.

I will be running Procomp 210 heads. I bought them bare, had them ported and installed comp cam springs and manley valves. I am using a Ford Racing Victor Jr. manifold and a 750 Holley Street HP carb. Comp roller cam with a 574 lift. Eagle forged crank and rotating assembly. Car is driven on the street and not raced. I have a 64 Fairlane T-Bolt and have been running a built 460 with Procomp heads for 3 summers now with no problems. The car is plenty powerful.

I think you'll be happy with it... looks like the particulars are pretty similar to mine. My engine dyno'd at 612 hp/615 tq... it's scary at times... but in a good way.

I think the recipe for the 427w are all very similar. I would of went with the AFR 205's heads, but didn't want to pay the 2k for a set. I am hoping for around 500HP with my setup.

you should be close depending on whose dyno it is. Im running a similar set up, on a mustang dyno its about 485 at the wheels on a dyno dynamics it;s 420 rwhp.

So where else do they use the 427 Dart blocks? I've got one and want to know more about it. I feel a little -no, a lot foolish to have such a great Cobra and know so little about it.

when I ran mine on a dynojet, I ended up a few ticks below 460 hp/tq at the wheels after some tuning & re-jetting... pretty serious drivetrain loss, but still more than I can handle. BTW... I'm running AFR 225s. The aluminum block saves me some weight, so the car comes in right around 2240 lbs.

thats a pretty darn good number, im running the same thing but with the 205's and an aluminum block and heads. I moved to a heavy steel flywheel from an ultra light weight aluminum one so im sure I lost some there, either eay there is definately enought power to make the passing lane fun.

Dart is the title sponsor of the annual DART Winter Nationals for dirt Late Models every February in Florida. Some national series that run them are... Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, World of Outlaws Dirt Late Model Series, Lucas Oil Off Road Racing series... and about any other off road truck or open motor dirt Late Model organization. 380-390cid and up to 9000 rpm for small motors, 430-460cid and up to 8000 rpm for big motors. 800+ HP

The Dart blocks are just built beefier than the stock 351 block.They have thicker decks, thicker bore webbing, siamese bores, priority main oiling, enlarged water jackets and 4 bolt main caps. The dimensions of the Dart block are the same as the stock block, so everthing should bolt up when you install. What is nice about the Dart block is when you use the 4.125 bore and a 4.000 inch stroke it takes you to the magical 427 number. Actually 428, but close enough. A employee from Ford Motorsport told me if using a stock block, avoid using anything over a 4.000 stroke. A 4.100 and a 4.170 stroke starts to put a lot of load on the side walls of a stock block.

Thanks. That helps! I've heard that about over-stroking the standard Windsor block. Why call it a 427 Windsor when it isn't? How about a 427D? Hey, we maybe onto something here.....

(4.125/2)**2 * 3.14 * 4.00 * 8 = 427.4325

Dart blocks are definitely beefier than the originals.

The 302 and 351w was built in Windsor Ontario, which comes the name 351 Windsor. The 351 Cleveland, built in Cleveland Ohio, formerly the home team of Lebron James, who defected to Miami.

Dart refers to their blocks as 302 SB and 351 SB. The fact that the majority of street builds, including this one, use a Windsor head is why most people refer to that combination as a Windsor. When using a Yates, SC1, or D3 head in a racing application they are not referred to as a Windsors.

My 427w install is done and the car is on the road today! I just had to adjust the clutch and dial in other components, and away I went with a big smile on my face. The car is running strong, but have not hammered it yet, do to a brand new engine. I can already hear a difference from my previous 351w to the 427w. The 427 has a lower "growl". I can also feel a obvious increase in torque. A little more tweaking and it will be ready to go.
