jbl has a new pumper!
about this time last year at run n gun is when i ran into the engine problems, so it's been a year (6 mo. behind schedule) in the making to get this one going. hopefully i won't have to do any more unless i want to. those engine builders earn their money for sure.

If it runs as good as it looks you'll be in good shape!

lol, i like that. it is a pretty simple motor, 9-1 383. i've put two heat cycles in it and it looks good so far. tomorrow i'm taken it on the road.

took it out on the road today a few times. these cars never cease to amaze me. the engine is a mild 383 9-1 compression with a lightweight flywheel & clutch and the acceleration is awesome, i can't imagine what some of you guys with the high hp units experience. so far about half throttle is all i can tolerate for fear of rear wheel slippage and speed limit breakage.
fixed the primary and secondary oil leaks and working on the trimary leaks, might have some head gasket leakage--shouldn't have used the elcheapo fel pro units.

I always tell people they are like a GoKart with a V-8. Tough to express what it's really like to push the pedal down, then try to unpucker your butt from the seat that it's clung to.

took it out again today and everything is looking good. dry like a bone on the outside, i think i count something like 30 potential leakage points on this dry sump setup not counting the engine proper. checking the screen filters and smaller amounts of metal particles then the first time and there wasn't much then. i think metal particles are like oil leaks, no matter how careful they always show up.
i finally got to use the carburetor stan justus built for roger davidson and it works great, no hesitation, lean spots or anything. afr is right in the 13-13.5 range at moderate acceleration and dives down to the 12.5 range under full throttle. i don't know what he charges now for a carb but it is a top notch piece, i would sell any of my other carbs but this one is a keeper.

Mark, glad to see the black car back on the road after so long. Sounds like a solid engine without any extremes, so I expect it should be very reliable and take a pretty good beating without complaining.

hello john, that was my intent. even though it is a mild setup it's still plenty, i guess the only thing i don't have is compression. getting your chariot all ironed out?

did a retorque on the cylinder heads with fel pro composition gaskets and the nuts probably moved another 1/16-1/8 of a turn. probably a good thing i did this. i don't think they are seeping, just fluid from an earlier test.
