So, what is the best one to use? I have been using the Wix racing filter. Seems pretty good, but not really sure.

Need to edit post AGAIN due to bad information. The melling 10833M83HV is good to 8 gpm at 4000 rpm where I was TOLD it levels off. Earlier I was given bad info of 3.25 gpm. On a side not you can run it as high as 80 psig without issue. Even at 8 gpm the RP is less the 2PSIGD at operating temp. I hope it gets to about 50f tonight so I can thicken the oil up some.

As far as which filter is best, the ones with clean bypass, the ones with micron ratings in the 20's, the largest filter you can fit on your car, and the ones painted purple.
You guys wanted it so I am doing it, I am going back to drinking all next week in my carrabein resort. Last time I gained 8lbs!!!!!!

Logically, you'd think that a racing filter would be the way to go for a high performance engine on the street. Doesn't sound like that's the way to go.

Until this thread appeared I was very happy running my Moroso Racing filter (27 microns). Now I'm not so sure. Maybe I should be running dual filters, a Mobil1 filter (9 microns) to get all the debris and a Wix Racing filter (58 microns) to let the oil through.

I'm so confused!

You forgot one option, continue with your Moroso and get a $69.00 filtermag with 600lb pull strenght and it will attact iron particles down to 2 micron. I am beginning to convince myself the dp across oil filters is negligible, so why not go with the 20 micron filters, the dp is still neglibilbe.

I got thinking about the FL-1HP with the 22 psig bypass. Do we really want that, sheet at 6K if I was at 21 psig differential then my oil pressure would be 30 psig instead of 60 psig (7-8 psid across oil cooler). Let the bypass do it job as long as it is clean side.

This is another example of marketing bs that buffaloed me into thinking normal filters do not filter with their low bypass setting. They all filter 100% of the time at operating temp and if they bypass you got big problems because your filter is plugging over!

I figured it out, do what GM and Ford do, their cars go 200k miles, look at corvettes, they get the living sheet pounded out of them. They use good ole acdelco filters. By the way the specs on a new LS7 engine is 27 psig of oil pressure at 4k rpms. They have the same main and rod bearing clearances we have at .002". The rule of 10 psig per 1000rpm is questionable, in fact, the new rule LOLOLOLOL is 10 psig per 100 hp with miniumium of 35 psig regardless of top rpm. So 500 hp engine = 50 psig.

I think Bob in Ct has it nailed down 5W30, go with RP filter and you are done, complete finished.

A Royal Purple oil filter is hard to find, at least from a nice reputable place. I believe the part # is 30 8A.

I think I will just stay with the wix racing filter. It works, but maybe I will try the Moroso or maybe.............?

Yes, but it's the best money can buy. Or at least Maxx is 99% sure it's the best.

Some would say that a polished aluminum Cobra is garish. Or even two roll bars.

Sorry but when I think of oil filters the word "lovely" does not come to mind. It could be yellow with pink polka dots for all I care. As long as it's the best, so what if it doesn't win a beauty contest?

This in my opinion is not applicable for our engines:

To maximize filter performance, Moroso Oil Filters have a rating of 27 microns, which produces a maximum initial restriction of only 2.5 psi when tested to SAE j806! The result is less pressure drop, more flow, less oil by-pass and maximum filtration performance that's so important in severe racing conditions

I ahve no idea what SAEJ806 is, maybe it is 3gpm or 30 gpm. The ENGINEERING information RP sent indicated a dp across the filter of LESS THAN 2 psig at 9GPM and 20Cst. The max flowrate a melling HV can put out is 8gpm. 15W50 at 100C has a viscosity of 20.2Cst, 10W30 is 10.7 Cst. RP micron is 99% at 25 micron and 97% at 20 micron.

Please note even the competitors filter on the RP information only had a dp of 4 psig at 9gpm. Bottom line at temp no filter is bypassing.

I think the Moroso is a good filter and mimicks the old Ford Racing FL-1HP. None of us will ever realize the benefit of a 25 micron filter over a 27 micron.

Supposed to get to 50F tonight, tomorrow morning I am going to determine the dp across the fitler with the engine oil cold, viscosity should be about 200 Cst. If it dont bypass then it will never for us that live in Texas. Even if it bypasses no problem as long as clean side.

False and misleading advertising and my own ignorance led me to beleive that oil filter bypass all the time, so buy the best with the biggest filter. In reality for our Street engines under 15 gpm, no filters bypass at temperature and if they bypass on start-up it is only for minutes until it gets warmed up. I loath the filters FRAM with dirty side bypass valves.

With the blue spark plug wires, the blue and red line connections, now I can see why you want to use a basic white oil filter. You have WAY too much going on in there. A decorator's nightmare.

Have you safety wired your drain plug? Now we're talking.
