Yea, I was kinda disappointed in my results. I was thinking our engines are so close to the edge we need the "best". In the end any filter will work and work as good as the next.

It is like so many other things. Car audio people tell you that you must use the "monster" cables to get the most out of your system. Another load of bs!!! There is a higer profit in the cables than the audio equipment.

I also learned my $35.00 Ironman watch doesnt need wound every day like my Rolex.

I also learned AAPLE is the only company which does not deceive it customers.

I also learned I like the plane jane silver AN fittings, the other make it look like a christmas tree.

Totally un-American.

Polish by hand? it's always the bling with you.

Chas, is 100% correct. Buy the Aeroquip, or if there's something better, buy that.

That almost sounds like an insult, but I'm too stupid to understand it. You know, me being part of your environment which shapes you.

Did we ever get confirmation that the micron rating for the FL-1HP is less than 30? I still have a couple of new ones left and will switch to the -1a when they are used up.

Also, Filtermags - total waste of money or is there some benefit?

There was a TV commercial on in betwen cartoons last night. They were selling this little magnetic bracelet that supposedly gave you strength and better health. At first, they pushed this guy in a shopping mall down on to the floor. Then they gave him the bracelet and could no longer push him down. I think the Filtermags are pretty much the same thing.

I find when I wear the bracelet I don't have to use a jack to lift the car. Much faster that way.

FL-1HP have a micron rating of 27, the FL-1A is 25. So with FL-1A you theoretically get better filtering which nobody in three lifetimes would realize. The FL-1A is my filter of choice. You can do a complete oil change with 9 quartz of castrol 10WXX and new filter for $31.00 from walmart, if you like synthetic, it goes to $50.00

On a side note I cant say the filtermags are a complete waste, I argue they have the ABILITY to do more than the clamp on PatrickT filter, LOL!!!!!

I would have zero heartburn using a filtermag, proof in the pudding I just one off ebay for $12.50 plus $4.95 shipping, oh yea!! Usually retails for $39.95. I am going to install and cut open the filter in 6 months. Problem is we will never know if those particles would have gotten through the media since it attracts metal on the dirty side.

Your good:LOL

By the way 70F and 20% humidity today and blue skies!!!! I will put that new filter to test.

Without a doubt the best aftermarket accesory I have ever purchased for any car is the SPF Bras. It is so beautifull to have flawless paint. I have used it about 5 months now and zero paint fade, zero rub marks, and ZERO ROAD CHIPS!!!!!

Maxx:
Where did the 25 microns for the FL-1A come from? I would have bet a month's pay it's more like 10 microns.

Naaah, it needs to oxidize a little (it's all shiny), but that won't take long.

What did you use? Steel wool? Emory cloth? The right look would be a very fine wire brush for that slightly brushed alloy look.

Not to be too picky, but you still have some blue in the cracks.....although this qualifies as a half-ass job for sure. Maybe a notch about that.

I called the ford techline and the kid read me the details, he never said micron just 25 "U" I said the "U" means micron, LOL!!!. I am 100% sure it is not 10 microns!!!! Ford is good but they aint that good. Even the best filter on the market IMHO RP has 20 micron at 97% and 25 at 99% single pass. I think the FL-1A is 97% at 25 micron, remember at 4 gpm at 2K rpm it takes about 35 seconds for your entire 9 quarts of oil to go through the filter, sooo once again single pass is just more misleading advertising, Ok I will take two passes or 70 seconds to get the 100% 25 micron rating.

Heck as the filter gets dirty it gets more efficient!!!

You are being far too generous. We expect a more worthy performance from him.

I used a a very fine wire brush for that slightly brushed alloy look... but I got tired. What you see there is about an hour's worth of work, and it's about 98% done. The remaining two percent that is in the crevices will probably take another hour. It comes off pretty easily though -- and in real life it looks pretty good. Way better than the blue and red - that has bugged me for years now. Once again, RodKnock gets the credit.

Uh, no we don't. He's the king of half-ass. But we try and goad him into doing it right.

The nice thing about this job is that it is now the equivalent of a box of cookies on the kitchen counter. Every time you pass by it you can reach down and spend a few minutes on it. It does not require jacking up the car, crawling under, etc. -- just look for a spot of blue or red and polish it out.
