Fan belt PN for Roush 402 w/ Powermaster Alt in an SPF

What's the best fan belt part number for a Roush 402 with a Powermaster alternator in a Superformance?

I'm currently using Goodyear PN 15386. The belt sits a bit low and has started to screech again. People with SPFs will know that the clearance between the alternator and the engine bay provides little room for adjustment

In another thread, zzmac had mentioned that he'd gone to a wider belt which sat up a little higher in the v-groove and eliminated the screeching noise.

You can put belt dressing on it to keep it from screeching but that does not help if your belt is stretching and you do not have enough adjustment. I had the same problem with my 351W in my CR so I made a bracket and changed the location of my alternator to the drivers side.

Not sure if Roushe runs the March pulley and bracket setup or not but if so the Gates belt number is 7400 (11A1015). The picture shows a picture of the set up on my Windsor based 408.

Get the next size smaller belt. The key is to remove the water pump pulley, install belt around alt, harmonic balancer than slide water pump pulley on water pump, you will have plenty of adjustment.

The length of the belt isn't the problem. The belt shouldn't sit so far down in the groove that the pulley is above the belt.

I sent CC user zzmac an IM, as he has the exact same set-up and went to a slightly wider belt.

The 15386 is commonly used by Roush/SPF owners, but I'm just curious if people with the same config have used something different.

Typically the belt comes on the engine from Roush. Even when we used to buy the pulley kits the belt was in the box. So I don't know. I can check my notes tomorrow and see if we have used a different belt if you like?

Thanks Jay. The 15386 is what came on the motor, but it would be great to confirm.

I still have a couple belts from my Roush 402R that I had in my old SPF.
I had replaced the original belt with the Goodyear Gatorback 7380 but also found that it sits very deep in the groove. I replaced it with the Gates 7380 and it was perfect. I'm not sure if I'm remembering this correctly but the 7380 may have been a size smaller than what came stock. The alternator sits pretty darned close to the body of a SPF and leaves like a 1/4" of play. It never did touch but it I never felt comfortable either.

I ended up replacing the belt today with the same one (Goodyear 15386) that originally shipped with the motor. I tried the 17386, which is the exact same length and the next step wider, but it sat too high (IMO) on the pulley.

The first belt really started making a lot of noise after 9k miles, so it's cheap and pretty easy to replace when needed.

Sorry for the delay in responding. I just did a quick check and it's a 17390. I couldn't see the brand name but on the belt it also had a logo that said "Torque" and another # 14-0631-6 & "Made in Canada". A quick check on Google came back with AC Delco for the 17390 part#.

When I'm dressed warmer tomorrow I'll try to confirm the brand.

Thanks posting the details zzmac.

It looks like the 17390 that you're using is 39" L and .53" W. The 17386 that I tried is 38.5" L and .53" W. The length is perfect, but the .53" W seems a bit wide for the pulleys.

The 15386 belt that came with the motor is 38" L and .44" W.

I'm going to stick with the original belt for now, since it's a pain in the axx to install it. If I ever have to take the alternator off, I'm going to slot out the alternator bracket so it's easier to take the belt off/on.
