Default Summit Carb

Has anyone tried one of the Summit Street and Strip Carbs yet. They have been out for a few years now so I was wondering how they are working out. I found this two year old review that used an Innovate LM-1 A/F reader. The review was overall mostly positive.

I have heard that this is actually made by Holley for Summit, and uses just about all Holley parts. I believe this to be the case as I Googled Summit Carburetor and found this link, that is the manual for the Summit Carb. The manual looked familiar, so I picked up my Holley Avenger manual and compared the two. The organization, format, font, and picture styles are all the same. I would say even the manual was done by Holley.

So has anyone tried one in the last year or so?

Ya, I knew the history. I liked the old 4100s when I was in High School. The forum kind of mixed the old with the new.

Bought one of these after reading this and another post. Result? - Extremely pleased with its performance even though a number of people said it wasn't a performance carb.
Bought the 600 and added the dual feed AN fuel line.

I was having a stumble with my Edelbrock AVS 650 and after months of working with it, finally gave in and purchased this carburetor.
Bolted it on right out of the box without breaking it down like I usually do to "see" whats inside.
I had a -6AN fuel line already which is why I bought the optional AN fuel line.
This hooked right up.
Linkage was the same as the Edelbrock with a little adjustment.
Fired right up with the idle a little low. Adjusted the idle and notice a small fuel leak on the fuel line where the gauge would go. Put a little Teflon tape on it and re-tightened.
Idle was very good and need little if no adjustments other than base idle speed.
Choke even worked correctly.
After warm up, I took it out for a test drive and Whoa! Absolutely no hesitation on full like before. Smooth all through the RPM up to 6000 where the limit cuts it.
Best this car has ever run.
After driving it for about 45 minutes and filling back up with $3.85 93 octane at my favorite no ethanol station, I headed home. When arriving home I shut it down and restarted a few times. All it took was a very slight bump.
No leaks and all is good.
I know I haven't got a lot of time on it yet (this will change this weekend) but I recommend this carb for those that just want a good running carburetor right out of the box.

P.S. and it looks pretty good too!

I'll kick in my two cents. I've purchased parts from Summit for years, almost 25. In fact, when they had their engine shop, I bought a stroked Chevy small block (350 to 383) from them for my 1954 Studebaker. I had a lot of problems with that engine that never really got entirely resolved before I sold the car (yes, with full disclosure). That was in 1995 and they later closed their engine shop. Summit is a retailer, not a manufacturer. They contract with manufacturers to create their then Summit branded products like a lot of retailers in other sectors do. In this case apparently Holley. That doesn't necessarily make it any better or worse and we all know that Holley has had their own "manufacturing deviation" issues over the years. My personal opinion is that you can make almost any carb that is manufactured properly work (except Edelbrock on a light weight car like ours - yes, a cheap shot) through proper tuning. That said, I would stick with the original manufacturer where ever I could. That way you can go directly to the source if things go wrong. Like I said, my two cents.

But at $235, why go to too much trouble, it's disposable!

Well now, there's an excellent point Fletch! For that price you could even add one to the spares in the trunk.

Just think, it's a little more than 3 full tanks of gas!
Ouch!
