Default Roush 342 thermostat housing leaky

I have a persistent leaky thermostat output housing problem, have tried replacing the gaskets turns out the housing seems to be slightly warped.

Is my only source for this chromed thermostat housing that connects to the Victor Jr 302. intake manifold is to purchase directly from Roush?

or can it be obtained elsewhere?

thanks

ford motorsport makes the chrome ones, alot of people complain out them leaking. you can surface grind it to make it flat, also on some the small tube that screws into the housing also leaks. i replaced mine with a motorcraft one which is like the original fsactory one it is just cast aluminum but it costs around 90.00.

thank you wrench 87

That one sure looks much beefier, my whole motor is polished and the output angle is difference.

I wonder if I could get a friend of mine that has been polishing some aluminum for me to polish up the beefier one and get a different angled hose to connect to my backdrift racing angled stainless steel radiator tube.

The chrome ones are notorious for leaking. That output is for a temp sensor, but it comes with an npt plug, use sealant on the plug if you install it. It also comes with the gasket.

Roush motors come with a two year warranty. Why not contact them?

Second owner.

You can install a 90 degree housing.

You can go to any auto parts store and get what you need. Remember this when you go, you don't have a Roush engine because there's no such thing, you have a small block Ford.

D111,

I had a similar issue with my Roush 342. Turns out it was a missing o-ring on the face of the thermostat housing. The gasket was there, but the o-ring was not. I installed the o-ring and the leak went away. You can get the o-ring at any parts store.

As said above, there are two common places for leaks.

Remove the o-ring, and lightly sand the gasket surface. Place some fine sandpaper on a piece of glass, because is usually the flattest thing in any house. Look at the gasket surface for high and low spots.

The screw in nipple for the bypass hose is also a common spot. 6 years ago I put mine together using JB Weld and pliers. Still going strong, no leaks.

I don't use a gasket or o-ring. Just a little bit of silicone sealant.

Call Roush and ask them for their billet Thermostat housing. This wont leak as it has the embedded oring right in it.
