bypass

Thinking of adding expansion tank. I know this has been discussed before but I don't quite understand. Intake has thermostat housing with bypass included.
When I install the expansion tank, it will not include bypass hose fitting. I have never had thermostat housing off. Is the hole in the intake threaded for an adapter to attach hose? If not, what does everyone do in this situation?
Pictures or diagrams would be helpful !!

Under the tank the bypass is connected. The plumbing is a bit Rube Goldberg but it works. I did not want to operate without a bypass. I think I've got three 90 degree fittings.

But is the bypass hole in the intake threaded for an adaptor or did you have to fabricate something?
