probably.........
if you were to just keep adding oil to a small block ford engine, I'm guessing you could overfill it by 10 quarts, when you figure the total capacity of the pan and the capacity of the crankcase........maybe more, would it run? that's another question. I'm sure it would start and run for a while, blow by would probably be terrible....

Its not the blow by your worried about. Once the oil level gets high enough the crank starts running through the oil. When that happens you will loose oil pressure rather quickly because of all the air in the oil.

History has proven that people can do anything, regardless of how stupid or impossible it sounds, so yes you can. Sounds like someone's old eyes couldn't see the oil line on the dipstick and just kept adding, not even considering how foolish they were being.

depends where you put the oil in, and wether the drain plug is in.... that ought to cover all bases.

now onto something important, if you have a Honda lawnmower make sure you check the leve with the dipstick sitting but not scrwed in or you will run it low on oil.

Off topic but saw someone overfill a 15,000 hp Man BW engine. Standing next to the crankcase doors you could hear the crank web slap through the oil. Made $10 Amsoil a quart look like a drop in a bucket. About 10 barrels to much. So Jay what's the backstory? Huh Huh?

I have to share once I have the time. It is a long one... but it gets more interesting when you only have a 12 quart case of oil, you fill a 9 quart system (that still had about 2 quarts in it after draining to install a temp sender in the pain and seal it) and when you are all done there are still 5 quarts in the case...

Why is that wrong... you used 7 Qts. to fill it (plus the 2 left in there) is 9. You should have 5 Qts. left from a 12 Qt case, unless to be sure, drop the pan and start from scratch.

Nevermind just reread it and realized you had to drop the pan to drill it, therefore starting from scratch.

I will tell the tale once the customer is happily motoring along... until then we may have some new excitement. A hard lesson.
