Ceramic Coating Headers & Exhaust Pipes

Looking at having headers & under car exhaust pipes (ERA) ceramic coated.

Have some questions:

- About how much material (thickness) is added to the pipes ?

- Any recommendations as to brands or types coatings ?

- Any recommendations of coating companies ? (West coast preferred)

- Any comments or suggestions ?

I had mine done at Jet Hot in Phoenix. Turn around was about a week and they did a very nice job. Not sure about the thickness of the coating.

I had my side pipes coated satin black. Good to 2000 deg F. Also had some brackets done in chromex looks like chrome with orange peel. I am totally happy with the results. Thickness is less than .004
They have a good web site with all prices. and will deal a little like cash and no tax.

Great info and links. Leaning towards a silver color for the manifolds and satin black or very dark grey for the rest.

I'll have to ask the respective companies if their material will stick to Stainless Steel, as one muffler I am considering is stainless.

I've heard that just about any company that does powder-coating can do ceramic. I would try to find a local company and hand carry your stuff in. Cobra pipes don't always do well in the rough-and-tumble shipping arena.

Good point. Once I am more educated on the process I can look for a local source.

I am not that adverse to shipping, provided the pipes are properly protected. But if all things are equal, it's cheaper and faster to just get the coating done locally.

When selecting a vendor, check the specs on the ceramic process/material being used vs the vendor's powder coating. In some cases, " ceramic ' has become a generic name/term for any type of coating.

I shipped my pipes, the local UPS Store constructed 2 cartons from HD corrugate sheets. Pipes were wrapped and the packing material reduced movement. Vendor, Swain, used the same cartons to return the coated pipes. UPS insured for the full replacement value of the side pipes, no problems.
