Grand total comes up to US$ 122, 000, plus tax and licence in Arizona.

These prices listed are two years old.

So there you have it.

OK so why did I go this way, first its a realization of a dream and is a retirement gift to myself, second, while I would dearly love to build one from scratch at this time in my life but I do not want to spend my time in the sun building a car and I absolutely know I would not have the patience. It would have also been totally impractical for me to have engaged in a build process at the same time as working in Asia.

So why didn't I buy one completed from the Club Cobra for sale site, well, it would have been somebody else's inspiration and would not have my personal stamp on it plus it would have cost a mint to travel back and forth to the USA and China until I had selected the correct one, thus the purchase of a roller, accessories, selection of an engine and the extras to make it just the way I wanted it and the install to make it a "turn key" drive away..

Would I make the same selection if I had to do it all over again, probably, but there would be a very strong pull to go with a Kirkham roller with a Keithcraft SOHC Cammer. In all fairness however, I have yet to really experience the Cobra that I selected.

I can hear some folks that say I am nuts spending this type of gelt for a Cobra and the Roush engine, but what I have listed above is general public knowledge and is available on each of the websites for the products and items listed. Arguably I have selected high end products but I make no apologies since this is my personal preference and I can live with that.

Hope this sharing helps any newbie looking for some pricing advice or anyone who is putting their shopping list together and is looking towards purchasing these products.

If anyone has some specific questions about the options I selected send me a pm.

Cheers, John, AKA, tin-man

Amen, and considering I didn't tell my wife until she asked what the roller and engine deposits were for in the checkbook to Hillbank and Roush, there is no way on earth that I would ever be able to pull that one off again and live to talk about it.

rodneym, I never really gave it much attention until Madmaxx talked about the dull tires. I thought tire treatment shined the tires or does it just make them blecker?

So how many readers make their tires blecker and what do they use?

I guess I'm one of wierdos that like their tires to look like rubber, not plastic.

BTW, the Roush HP/TQ numbers on the 'big list': the 468FEs have numbers showing when it was a 451. Those have been bumped with the displacement.

With other good options out there why would someone pay these prices for these engines. I know that the dealers really push them so that they can make their cut. I guess when business slows down just charge more the the engines and you do not have to do as many. I guess I should have thought of that.

Later, Keith

As a sidenote, I use Zaino products; I really like their stuff.

Their tire dressing doesn't seem to turn tires brown in the sun and has a nice semi-gloss finish without that wet look. It also seems to last longer than Armor-all.

I challenge you to price one of your small block 427s against a Roush 427r line by line for each and every part including crating, freight, and in house warranty. And by every part I mean FEAD, starter, fuel pump, air cleaner with K&N etc.

Then we can put it to bed.

You're kidding aren't you?

KC reputably has FE builds consuming less oil than Roush small blocks...
I know where I'd prefer to send my check

Its pretty easy really. Your signature - or mine - are not worth as much as Carroll's and Jack's. While the external dress may be different, the vast majority of high cost internal parts are essentially the same as our's.

Volume my boy, volume...

If you sell 2000 engines and have 20 problems you are far ahead then 200 engines with 2 problems. Percentages don't tell you everything.

If they did then we'd all be happy with a 99.999% successfull landing ratio for passenger jets.

Forget the part-by-part cost comparison. Examine the horsepower-per-dollar comparison.
Roush's 511 that makes 572 horsepower is a 1.12 horsepower-per-cube, under achiever -for $50K plus in Tin's case.
That will not sound like a 'freight train'. It will sound like money flying out of your pocket.
Keith, Barry and others here easily make 650 HP for half that cost. And if you only want 570 HP they'll make it in smaller displacements for far less cash.
Keith's right about the assemblers and dealers being Roush cheerleaders.

There's no way I'd give Roush a check a head of KC (or Barry, or Blynkins for that matter).

Sorry, the only nice thing I can say about Roush is - they sure have some pretty valve covers

C'mon guys, these are cars are all replicas to begin with. Why not just have Blykins build you a replica Roush engine for one third the cost. He'll build it well and then pay him to slap on some Roush plates/covers and you're good to go. How is that any different than the Cobra emblem on the hood of my replica car?

I don't do replicas.
"...a rose by anyother name..."

I'd be the type of guy who is happy to have ERA logos on my ERA, cos, guess what? It's an ERA!
...and I would have chosen it and be proud of it!

If Blynkins built me an engine, I'd prefer his autograph on it thanks!

Alright, do you want Blynkins or Blykins? You know, I kind of like the idea of him setting up an engine shop and calling it Wynkins, Blynkins, and Nod....

Dude, it's 2:45am where I'm at.
I'm on heavy sedation drugs as I've just done my ac joint while coming off my bicycle at 60kph on my way to work yesterday.
And I've fat fingers typing on an iPhone.
Please forgive me & cut me some slack.

Despite all this you still couldn't get me to write that "cheque" to Roush.

Ps: the bike is fine & came out unscathed, so I'm happy
