If you're looking for a curve like this, you'll need some cubes....

Yes, that would work.

As the saying goes: "There's no replacement for displacement."

B, what are you thoughts about Dart Pro 1 aluminum heads? Haven't seen any mention of them.

I've never used a set so anything I said would be just an educated guess....

Brent, do you perform any of the machining or porting of the heads in-house?

No sir, I use 2-3 guys who do nothing but carve on heads all day long.

Default Internal vs. External Balancing

Brent -- I don’t think I missed it in your description of the two engines, I saw it was noted they were Scat cast cranks, but were the rotating assemblies internally or externally balanced? Is internal balancing something you highly recommend if going with a new stroker build anyway, or is it not really worth the expense unless for a build that is going to see some demanding, high RPM operation?

Along the lines of expense, approximately how much does it add to the cost of a build? I have always read that it adds to the cost, but I don’t think I have ever seen a dollar figure stated. I think I saw on the Eagle website where all of their 4340 forged cranks are internally balanced, and obviously more expensive, but wondered if when going with a cast crank, if internal balancing is overkill. Any opinions and dollar figures welcomed.

Both were 28oz engines.

On a cast crank, it's hard to justify the price to internally balance, but on engines where we are making big horsepower and turning higher rpms, I'll use a steel crank anyway.

Here, it's about $150 to externally balance and then the price to internally balance is the price of the heavy metal and installation. Most internal balance situations are around $350-375.

Default Boss 302

I have a 1970 Boss 302 with the original block, crank, intake manifold and
Cleveland heads. The Crane solid roller cam, Holley 650 double pumper
carb and 10.5/1 pistons are new. MPG port plates are installed for both the
intake and exhaust to smooth out the midrange and the car runs well on the
street with no stumbling. What are the pros and cons with a setup like this
and would better flowing modern heads be a better choice for this engine as
installed in an ERA FIA Cobra?
