Lykins Motorsports 461 Clevor for Scott Hodge
This one is a little on the exotic side but should allow for at least 700 hp on pump gas. It may be slightly off-topic for the Club Cobra forum as it's going in a '57 Ford Fairlane, but I could see this as a build that would appeal to some CC'ers.
Foundation is a Dart aluminum 351W block, 2.750" mains, 4.155" bore, 9.500" deck height. Bored/honed with torque plates, mains align honed, decks squared up.
The rotating assembly consists of a superlight Scat 4.250" crankshaft, Callies 6.250" rods, and a set of custom Diamond pistons. The pistons have had the skirts coated and run a .043/.043/3mm ring pack.
Camshaft is a custom solid roller from Comp, small base circle (driver's side rods still needed to be clearanced slightly to have adequate clearance), 266/275 @ .050", 108 LSA, with .700" lift. It was degreed and set up on a 104 ICL.
At this point in time, the heads and intake are still being ported. The heads are 225cc CHI 3V heads, but will be opened up to about 260cc and will end up flowing about 380 cfm. The intake is a CHI 3V single plane intake and will be topped off with a Quick Fuel BDQ-1050 carburetor.
Front end consists of a Cloyes billet timing set, along with a new timing cover, an ATI harmonic balancer. Pumping the oil is a HV pump along with a Moroso pump pickup.
We had to use a Moroso pan that's made for the front and rear 4 bolt main caps. It has billet ends and is clearanced in all the right spots to clear the long stroke.
Will be posting more pics as parts arrive. Hope to have the top end here shortly.

Great pictures and sweet work. With the Cleveland heads, do you think the low end power will be a bit short but then go ape**** on the top end?

Well, the CHI heads have excellent velocity....they are not your typical Cleveland head. The port dimensions at the intake flange are about the size of a factory 2V head, but the heads will flow around the 380 mark.
We're also working with 460 cubes here, so the displacement will hopefully add quite a bit of bottom end.
With that being said, it's all relative.....this engine will be a tire fryer compared to some of the 408/427/445 engines that I usually build, but won't have the torque curve and bottom end that a larger big block would have.
But yes, it's going to go like stink.

I was always a Chevy guy. Loved my RAT motors but really liked the Cleveland heads, since they were just like BBCs, but, 'way back, the bottom end of Clevelands were problematic, especially at the R's necessary for the heads to really be effective. To me, you are building the best of both worlds, with plenty of cubes in a lightweight, SBF package. ATTABOY

Very nice. Looks like it would be the perfect engine for a Cobra! I think it will have Plenty of torque even for a fairly heavy car.

I feel you are being a little conservative on the estimated horsepower number? I believe you will break that 700hp number!!

Depends on the dyno I suppose.
Last similar combo I did was only 434 cubes, but it was 13.5:1 and we ran a *very* light ring pack with a vacuum pump. It made 777 hp. I think I have another camshaft here that I'll try on it when it comes back in for a freshen-up....may be able to get it closer to 800 hp.
We were able to run a Kuntz 460 inch SBF with Yates heads on the dyno here. With a dry sump, it was at 800 hp right on the money.

That oil pan pictured is a dry sump?

No....
I was saying that right around the same time I dyno'd that engine, there was a Kuntz engine being dyno'd....460 cubes, dry sump, etc, etc. There was only 23 hp between them.

O. I. C. Going to be fun to see what you get out of the Clevor...and maybe the approximate cost?

You don't wanna know the cost....LOL
The block alone was $6000, but he was set on as light of an engine as possible. I really had to talk him out of the $4000 titanium connecting rods...........
We are close to $30k....but it adds up quick....$1500 crank, $1500 worth of custom pistons, PAC valve springs, titanium retainers, ATI harmonic balancer, ported heads/intake, etc.

I like your bolt-on lifter dial indicator.
Where do I get one like that?
Is it Comp Cams or something like that?

For $30K I would think you would trim that timing cover gasket.

B, has your customer been looking over NASCAR engine specs? Yowser!
Maybe he'll want to see what it does a 10,000 RPM?
