Total timing Ford Racing 427_535 Z Head
Hey all,
Like a good little consumer on install I set my total to 32 degrees as the instructions indicated, which combined with my 4sec flat 14. Degree bushing in my 85480 Msd distributor gives me 18 initial.
Just to check, I pulled the dizzy to check the gear wear (fine), and broke out the dial back timing light to check timing and set it to 35/6 total. MUCH better off the line cleaner exhaust and crisper WOT. Running two light silver springs.
No pinging no sh*t on the plugs no down side that I can see...little leaner on the 4 corners too.
What does Ford base the 32degrees of total on, is that a hard number or a starting point? Motor sure seems happy with a bit more advance...BTW I run California 91 octane with Lucas octane boost to cure run on.
