Hey Saint

Did you notice the last post before yours was more than a half a decade ago?

I'll note that as a younger kid I was first attracted to these cars because I was heavily biased towards BB's.
I will throw another class of racing in to the mix. My friend races Pro-4 (Trophy Trucks) and ran a BB for years and was getting smoked by the big boys with the big dollars running SB's. He is now running a SB like the big money guys. Not only was his BB running slower lap times, but it was not reliable.

Different class but the exact same engines. My engine builder, Pro Power Racing, is one of the top builders in both dirt Late Model and off road trucks. Their 430-447 cid SB are over 870hp/750tq.

Default HP in a Ford Small Block

I had a professional shop in Orlando freshen up an old 340 ci R block (302) for me for my ex race 66 Shelby GT350. I told him, big Hp, reliable, needs to run on pump gas. It had been a high compression 110 octane guzzling 590 HP steroid build.

At the end of the day, I had a R block 302, bored .030 over...roughly 345 ci, Canfield heads..and produced as I recall 560HP on the engine dyno...and runs on pump gas.

The build is 4 years old. I drive the car every weekend in sunny Naples Florida....and has been 100% trouble free.

550hp with a modern SB build is almost ..common. 4 years ago..it was kind of cutting edge. Nothing slows progress......

I am not an engine expert, but the people I trust have told me...spend the money on the heads, so I did that and have not been disappointed.
