Brent,

Good choice on the forged pistons. I wouldn't run anything else. Good choice on the engine, too. The Mopar has several engineering advantages over the Fords and Chevys.

I once asked a somewhat well-known Cobra mechanic and builder how different the Ford and Chevy small block engines felt in a Cobra. His reply was, "you really cannot tell which engine it is, unless you open the hood".

I had thought about going from my current 47# flywheel to the 30# steel, but I understand the Weber ones don't warp with street use like the Mopar Performance ones. The larger lifter makes a big difference in flat tappet cams. Chevy is.842", Ford is .875" and Mopar is .904". I think the siamese runners hurt the Chevy and Mopar heads. Using rocker shafts makes more sense to me also as it should have better control over the valvetrain gometry. The biggest factor in my first Mopar engine for the Cobra was $1300 for 406 horse. It helps to have connections.

Brent,

I found a corroded old aluminum flywheel under a counter at a speed shop once and got it for $50. I cleaned it up and sent it out to have a bronze surface put on it where it contacts the clutch. It's been running great for about ten years now.

The Mopar ones are for racing and will warp if you slip the cluthc very much. I think you are right, the other brands don't have a problem. This will be like losing the weight of the passenger.
