Too Hi-Tech for me.........I just use the bnewell theory:
higher octane + $$$$$ = higher performance
Brian
p.s. its works for me anyway
p.s.s.s.s.s. I'm also just a "proud" waxer too

Brian,
If you read just a little you will see that once your engine is running with the required octane than more octane does nothing.

I haven't even read my SPF owners manual yet so I surely don't have time to read about all that hi-tech stuff regarding octane!!!
Brian
p.s. as always, I am sure you are correct.........but that Turbo Blue stuff sure does smell gooooood

Brian,
In case you haven't noticed I have backed off on busting the balls of the waxer crowd. Perhaps you would like me to start again?? We really don't need your comments here where the serious Cobra guys gather.
I try to offer some interesting info for anybody interested and a wise ass punk shows up.
Brent, how about a forum just for the waxers???

Hmmm, must have hit a nerve or something........please accept my humble apology.
All I meant was that I know absolutely nothing about octane or additives and that I enjoy the odor of Turbo Blue, nothing more....nothing less.
I am sure that the octane info is very informative and your insight on the matter is very much appreciated.
Now, in regards to your comment about a "punk a$$"......you can kiss my punk a$$.
Brian
p.s. checks in the mail.............buy yourself a new personality.

Crankster
Great stuff but I Do Not Agree with the one about air temp.
It has been my personal experience that a race motor set at the same timing mark will have a tendency to ping in cold weather as opposed to hot weather. The cold air is like an automatic timing advance therefore requiring more octane not less.
Any other opinions out there?

CSX,
Your observation may be a result of changing humidities and densities rather than higher compression temperatures. I'm sure that the bottom line is a result of many complex factors.

Racer, I was a little curious after reading this thread and searched for additional
info. this is more of the same but, in laymen lingo.

I know I probably don't get a thing from using it but I mix C-12 with 93 unleaded on some occasions for nothing more than the smell and the color it leaves the insides of the pipes. Really drives some of the waxer crowd crazy on what's in the engine. I guess you could call me 80 percent waxer 20 percent track......but whatever you do drive it...if it gets rock chips as I have many from the sticky Goodyears I run on the street...it just gives the car a little character.

Cranky & Perry,
Thanks for the links. I have been trying to explain knock and octane ratings to a friend for a month and I am undoubtedly the worlds worst person to try and explain anything. I may understand it but I just can't explain it so anyone else can. Anyway I refered him to the links you provided and now he understands a lot more. Boy, would I have ever made a terrible teacher.

have always put atleast 5 to 7gallons of 100 and 110 mixed with 91octane in my car. You can totally see the differance in performance. Here in LA the price went up to $5.95 a gallon, still doesn't stop me using it. Rather spend more on gas than worry about detonation.
