This is pretty much true of all U.S. made V8 engines. Fitting on intake manifold (or block) is pressure side, hot water out to heater. Typically it is located just behind the thermostat, flow wise, so the heater is producing heat as early as possible.
Heater return flow goes to water pump, or suction side. Many engines have two return lines here. One, is for the heater return, and the second for a thermostat by-pass to circulate coolant through the engine while the engine is warming up, and no coolant flow is going through the radiator yet.
