they'll work, if you don't mind replacing the cam in a few hundred miles....

No! The hydraulic cam does not have the opening and closing ramps that the solid lifters require. It will be noisey and will self destruct.

. . .yes you can. It has been done for years. A light lash of generally .008" and .010" on the rockers is set. This has been a common practice for years. No damage to the camshaft at all. It all started with the class racing of hyd. roller engines and the valvetrain problems they faced due to the mass of the lifter and the inability to use a stiff spring to dampen the mass without colapsing the hyd. valving.

Just came upon this during a search and thought I would add some insight.

What about the opposite?

Using hyd roller lifters on a solid roller cam.

Its a small roller 586" lift 244@.050 duration. I only turn it 7000 and its a small 289.

Advantage would be quieter, could use smaller springs (perhaps "beehives")

The solid would have steeper ramps but given that its small may work.

Any input?

Brian
